Bingo. Almost. Capitalism isn’t the problem. Under-regulated and corrupt Capitalism are the problems. Milton Friedman’s poor justifications for jilting customers and employees are the problems.

And baby boomers are the problem. I was born in the middle of the last century. A white male born in the USA. In human history, this is akin to winning Mega-Bucks. We could be near-do-wells and still live comfortable lives of plenty and privilege.

We inherited new roads and bridges, new infrastructure, a booming economy, and endless opportunity. But it never occurred to us that it was our responsibility to do anything but consume our shared inheritances, and look for ways to squeeze more for us from this generous society. “What’s in it for me?” became the universal motivating factor.

In a less frantic atmosphere, we might have recognized history’s lessons. We might have seen the simple truth that a balance of regulated free market and reasonable socialistic enterprises, along with actual guarantees that mirror our founding fathers promise of a nation dedicated to the premise that all are entitled to “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.” But we were blinded by greed and getting ahead.

Yeah, we fucked you Millennials and genXers big time. I hope that it’s not too late to fix what we destroyed.
