I Hate Wearing a Damn Mask
I hate wearing a mask. I have sinus problems; depending on the season and weather, breathing can be a chore.
And I wear glasses. So, with an extra effort required to both breath and see, wearing a mask is dependably a hassle.
But I do, not as religiously as I might, not as properly as Dr. Fauci suggests that I might, but I wear a mask when in public.
“But you’re vaccinated,” you say, “you don’t need to always wear a mask.” But I live on the SouthCoast of MA, where a greater percentage of the population have better ideas for getting past this pandemic than vaccinations and a mask. But some of those better ideas and theories aren’t working so well, and we have very high rates of contamination, disease and death.
“But you are not likely to die, even if you get it, you probably won’t even know it. And besides, only old people die.”
All the more reason to mask up. If I get it and am asymptomatic, I probably won’t know I have it. But I might give it to one of those people with better ideas about vaccinations and masks. And they probably won’t know they have it and give it to one or two others who will likely do the same.
All the while, we are nurturing Covid which is adopting and mutating to become more efficient at wiping out a significant percentage of us. And in the meantime, Covid just might end up taking out one of those other folks with better ideas. And also in the meantime, if we keep playing these games, we are giving Covid a huge advantage and creating a positive likelihood that a new variant will dictate that we will all need a new set of vaccinations, a new set of restrictions and we will be back to square one.
So, I wear a damn mask. Please get vaccinated and wear a mask so I won’t have to do this for the rest of my life. It’s not politics, it’s not rocket science, it’s common sense and common courtesy.
